Storage Tips
Due to Bali’s high humidity — often exceeding 80% — it’s important to store your belongings carefully to prevent mold, moisture damage, and deterioration. To help you protect your belongings, we’ve compiled the most efficient and reliable storage practices. Please follow these tips carefully to reduce the risk of mold, pests, and moisture damage.
Before placing anything into storage:
✅ Make an inventory of everything stored to track your items easily
✅ Prepare essential supplies:
Silica gel or Serapair (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
Airtight plastic storage bins with sealed lids (recommended over cardboard)
Labels and waterproof markers
Bubble wrap (available at Bali Storage Solutions) or waxed packing paper
Vacuum-sealed bags for most fabrics
Padlock (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
✅ Use Plastic Bins Only:
Airtight plastic bins are the safest choice for Bali’s humidity
Avoid cardboard—it absorbs moisture and attracts mold and insects
✅ Clean and dry everything thoroughly before storing—especially fabrics, furniture, electronics, or leather items
✅ Avoid overpacking: Don’t overload bins; allow air circulation and protect lids from stress
✅ Label clearly: Use permanent markers or printed labels on all sides
✅ Use moisture absorbers like silica gel or Serapair in every bin
👕 Fabrics, Clothes & Linens
✅ Wash, dry, and store regular clothes and linens in vacuum-sealed or airtight plastic containers
⚠️ Leather, suede, and similar materials: Do not vacuum-seal or wrap tightly in plastic
✅ Use breathable cotton covers for delicate materials
✅ Add silica gel inside each bag or container
✅ Elevate items off the ground using pallets and ensure airflow around bins (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
👜 Leather & Suede Items
✅ Clean and condition before storing
✅ Wrap in breathable fabric covers or acid-free paper (never plastic wrap directly on leather)
✅ Store inside sealed plastic bins with nearby moisture absorbers
✅ Elevate items off the ground using pallets and ensure airflow (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
🪑 Wooden Furniture
✅ Dry furniture completely before storing
✅ Apply anti-termite treatment (e.g., Latrek 400EC or Agenda 25EC)
✅ Wrap or bag furniture feet in plastic to prevent floor moisture absorption (recommended even when elevated)
✅ Cover with cotton sheets, never plastic
✅ Use Serapair moisture absorbers nearby
💻 Electronics, Paper & Small Appliances
✅ Pack in airtight plastic bins with silica gel
✅ Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap or wax paper
✅ Leave appliance doors (e.g., fridge, washer) slightly open
✅ Drain fluids from machinery before storage
✅ Protect sensitive electronics with extra padding
✅ Clearly label each box with its contents to quickly identify items when searching for something specific. This will save you time and make the retrieval process more efficient.
- Put signs like fragile, up down, etc
- Put labels and signs on all sides
✅ Stack plastic bins vertically—they’re durable and stack well
✅ Place heavy bins on the bottom, lighter ones on top
✅ Keep frequently needed items near the entrance
✅ Use pallets or shelves to keep everything raised from the floor (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
✅ Leave a central walkway for easy access and airflow
✅ Use a padlock to secure your unit (available at Bali Storage Solutions)
✅ Visit your unit periodically to refresh moisture absorbers
❌ Don’t use cardboard boxes—they absorb humidity and attract pests
❌ Don’t store damp or wet items, even temporarily
❌ Don’t store food, scented items, or organic materials
❌ Don’t store valuables requiring strict climate control unless well protected
